Dubai, April 29: The pace attack of Bangladesh, featuring Shoriful Islam, Mustafizur Rahman, and Nahid Rana, collectively took 18 wickets, resulting in notable advancements in the ICC Men’s ODI Player Rankings following their recent series win against New Zealand on home soil.
The Bangladesh team secured a hard-fought 2-1 series victory, with their fast bowlers playing a crucial role throughout the three matches, significantly contributing to the team's success and leading to impressive rises in the rankings.
Shoriful made an impressive jump of 11 places to secure the 28th position, while Mustafizur achieved a remarkable leap of 14 spots, landing at 41st. Notably, Player of the Series Rana experienced the most significant rise, soaring 16 positions to enter the top 50 at 48th, showcasing Bangladesh's strengthening pace bowling ahead of upcoming international competitions.
Bangladesh's batsmen also saw improvements in their rankings due to their performances in the series. Najmul Hossain Shanto climbed 11 places to reach 32nd, while Litton Das surged 15 spots to 65th in the ODI batting rankings following their consistent contributions.
All-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz further solidified his position, moving up one spot to joint third in the ODI all-rounders’ rankings, thanks to his impactful performance in the series-deciding match in Chattogram.
The positive trend continued into the T20I format, with Bangladeshi players making notable appearances in the updated rankings after the first match of their ongoing series against New Zealand.
Towhid Hridoy showcased his talent with a match-winning half-century in the series opener, climbing nine places to 39th among T20I batters. Parvez Hossain Emon also improved, rising three spots to share the 40th position.
In the bowling department, Mahedi Hasan advanced three places to tie for 18th, reflecting his consistent performances.
Meanwhile, players from Nepal also saw improvements following their home series against the UAE. Dipendra Singh Airee moved up to 60th among T20I batters, while Kushal Bhurtel made a significant leap of 18 places to joint 66th.
Both players also enhanced their standings in the T20I all-rounders’ rankings, moving to fourth and 23rd respectively, marking a successful period for Nepal in the shortest format.
