Colombo [Sri Lanka], October 2: In a remarkable debut performance, Rubya Haider scored an unbeaten 54, leading Bangladesh to a convincing 7-wicket win over Pakistan at the R Premadasa Stadium during the Women's World Cup.

Rubya's impressive half-century, coupled with a strong bowling effort, was pivotal in Bangladesh's success. Chasing a target of 130 runs, Bangladesh faced an early challenge when right-arm bowler Diana Baig dismissed Fargana Hoque in the fourth over, sending her back for just 2 runs off 17 balls.

However, Rubya and Sharmin Akhter steadied the innings, ensuring Bangladesh finished the powerplay at 23 for 1. Pakistan managed to break through when Rameen Shamim deceived Akhter with a straight delivery, leading to her dismissal for 10 runs off 30 balls.

Rubya then formed a crucial 62-run partnership with captain Nigar Sultana, putting Bangladesh in a strong position. Nigar contributed 23 runs off 44 balls before being dismissed by Fatima Sana.
