Lakshya Sen's Remarkable Victory

In an impressive display of skill and determination, India's Lakshya Sen emerged victorious against China's Shi Yu Qi in a closely contested badminton match on Tuesday. The match, which showcased both players' tactical acumen and physical endurance, ended with scores of 23-21, 19-21, and 21-17, marking Lakshya's first win over the former world No. 1 in a BWF world tour event. Previously, Lakshya had triumphed over Shi during the Asian Games team championships in 2023.

Vimal, Lakshya's coach, noted, "Lakshya maintained his composure throughout the match. He made Shi work hard for every point, which eventually wore the Chinese player down." He added that there were moments when Lakshya appeared fatigued, but he managed to recover and elevate his performance. "His attacking strategy was outstanding, making this win a significant boost for his confidence," Vimal remarked.

From the beginning, Lakshya demonstrated sharp focus, taking an 11-7 lead at the mid-game interval of the first game with precise angled smashes and quick net play. He extended his lead to 17-12, consistently breaking through Shi's defense with powerful cross-court winners and tight exchanges at the net.

However, the match took a dramatic turn when Lakshya lost leads of 18-12 and 19-16. Shi rallied back, scoring three consecutive points to level the game at 20-20. The tension escalated as Shi saved three game points, eventually forcing a 21-all tie. Lakshya had another chance to secure the game but missed it, only for Shi's backhand to hit the net, granting Lakshya a fifth game point. He capitalized on this opportunity with a decisive cross-court smash to win the first game.

In the second game, Shi started strong, and despite Lakshya's efforts to regain control, he found himself trailing 13-19. Nevertheless, Lakshya mounted a comeback, narrowing the gap to 18-19. Shi, however, executed a brilliant body smash to clinch the second game 21-19, pushing the match to a deciding game.

Throughout the match, Lakshya's gameplay was characterized by not only his powerful strikes but also his disciplined defense and quick net responses. His physical intensity forced Shi to take risks, often leading to errors as Lakshya retrieved shuttle after shuttle with remarkable speed.

In the final game, both players were tied at 6-6 before Shi briefly took the lead. Lakshya quickly erased the deficit and held a narrow 11-9 lead at the final interval. He continued to elevate his game, punishing Shi's errors and extending his lead to 16-11. Although Shi challenged a call that was confirmed to be in his favor, Lakshya responded with a stunning winner to go up 19-16. After earning four match points, Lakshya ultimately sealed the victory when Shi hit long.
