India Unveils Badminton Squad for 2026 Asian Games
India's Badminton Team for the 2026 Asian Games
The Badminton Association of India (BAI) has revealed the roster for the Indian badminton team set to compete in the 2026 Asian Games, scheduled to occur in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, from September 19 to October 4, 2026. This marks the 20th edition of the prestigious event, and badminton will feature for the 17th time since its introduction in 1962. Following their historic gold medal win in 2023 at Hangzhou, achieved by the duo of Satwik-Chirag, India aims to continue this success. The defending champions will be a key focus as they strive to retain their title, alongside another men's doubles pair consisting of Hariharan Amsakarunan and M. R. Arjun. All four athletes are also part of the men's team, which secured a silver medal in the previous edition. Other notable players include Lakshya Sen, Ayush Shetty, HS Prannoy, and Kidambi Srikanth, with Sen and Shetty competing in the men's singles.
On the women's side, PV Sindhu, who earned a silver medal in 2018 and contributed to the women's team's bronze in 2014, will lead the squad. She will compete in women's singles alongside Unnati Hooda. The women's doubles will feature Treesa Jolly/Gayatri Gopichand Pullela and Kavipriya Selvam/Simran Singh, while Dhruv Kapila/Tanisha Crasto will represent India in mixed doubles. Sanjay Mishra, the General Secretary of BAI, expressed optimism about the current state of Indian badminton, highlighting the depth of talent and the blend of experience and emerging players in the squad. He stated, “Indian badminton today is in a position where success is being shaped not just by individual excellence, but by the growing depth of talent across categories.”
