Ningbo, April 11: In a thrilling semi-final at the Ningbo Olympic Sports Centre, Ayush Shetty achieved a stunning upset by defeating World No. 1 and Paris 2024 silver medalist Kunlavut Vitidsarn, securing his place in the final of the Badminton Asia Championships.

Ranked 25th, the Indian shuttler showcased incredible resilience, coming back from a game down to win 10-21, 21-19, 21-17 in a match that lasted one hour and 15 minutes. After a challenging first game, Ayush regained his composure and executed a strategic game plan, utilizing aggressive shots and superior net play to turn the tide in his favor.

This victory is a significant achievement for Ayush, marking him as the first Indian men's singles player to earn a medal at the Badminton Asia Championships since HS Prannoy in 2018. It also ended a brief medal drought for India at this prestigious event, with the last podium finish occurring in 2023 when the doubles team of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty claimed a medal.

Ayush's path to the final has been nothing short of impressive. He made headlines in the quarter-finals by overcoming world No. 4 Jonatan Christie with a score of 23-21, 21-17, marking his first victory against the Indonesian star.
