Avani Prashanth Shines at Amundi German Masters, Only Indian to Make the Cut
Avani Prashanth's Stellar Performance
Indian golfer Avani Prashanth showcased an impressive performance in the second round of the Amundi German Masters held in Hamburg, becoming the sole Indian golfer to qualify for the weekend rounds.
As per the official announcement, Avani recorded a remarkable score of 4-under 69, marking the second-best round of the day. This achievement brought her overall score to 1-over par, comfortably above the cut line set at 2-over par. She concluded the day tied for 47th position.
Avani's Remarkable Comeback
In her second season on the Ladies European Tour (LET), Avani displayed exceptional resilience following a challenging first round. Her comeback began early in the second round with an eagle on the par-5 fourth hole, a stark contrast to the double bogey she recorded on the same hole during her opening round.
Starting strong on the front nine, Avani maintained her momentum into the back nine, adding birdies on the 11th and 13th holes to improve her standing. Although she faced a setback with a single bogey on the 14th hole, she quickly bounced back with another birdie on the 17th, finishing with an impressive 4-under 69.
Other Indian Players' Performance
Avani's strong performance follows her tied-fifth finish at the Hero Women's Indian Open earlier this season.
Unfortunately, her fellow competitors did not fare as well. Pranavi Urs finished the second round with a score of 1-over par, concluding the tournament at 4-over overall and tied for 72nd place. Vani Kapoor withdrew from the tournament after the first round.
Esther Henseleit Leads the Tournament
At the top of the leaderboard, Germany's Esther Henseleit thrilled local fans by taking the lead with a score of 9-under par after rounds of 64 and 71. Her second round featured five birdies and three bogeys, allowing her to maintain a narrow one-shot lead heading into the weekend.
Highlights and Competitors
Czech golfer Sara Kouskova delivered the standout performance of the day with an impressive 7-under 64, moving her into second place at 8-under overall. Her round included a remarkable eagle from a bunker on the 11th hole, along with six birdies and just one bogey.
Four players are tied for third place at 6-under par, including Norway's Dorthea Forbrigd and three German players: Alexandra Forsterling, Chiara Noja, and Leonie Harm. Defending champion Forsterling recorded consecutive rounds of 70, while Noja continued her strong recovery from a shoulder injury with back-to-back 3-under rounds.
A total of 64 players advanced to the weekend after the cut was finalized at 2-over par.
