Overview of ICC Rankings Update

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has released its annual rankings update, confirming Australia's leading status in both men's Test and women's ODI cricket. This update reflects all matches played since May 2025 at full weight, while results from the preceding two years are weighted at 50%, according to the ICC's official guidelines.

Men's Test Rankings Insights

In the Men's Test rankings, Australia remains firmly at No.1, enhancing their score by three points to reach 131. South Africa, the reigning World Test Champions, holds the second position with a similar three-point increase, totaling 119. India has climbed to third place with 104 points, surpassing England, which has dropped to fourth with 102 points due to the loss of earlier results from before April 30, 2023, including significant home victories against New Zealand and South Africa, as well as a clean sweep in Pakistan.

Pakistan has also gained from this update, moving ahead of Sri Lanka after their 3-0 home series loss to England fell outside the weightage period, along with a halved weightage for their 2-0 defeat to Bangladesh in 2024.

The top ten is rounded out by West Indies, Bangladesh, and Zimbabwe, while Ireland has fallen out of the rankings due to not meeting the minimum match requirement during the rating period. Both Ireland and Afghanistan must play two Tests in the upcoming year to re-enter the rankings.

Women's ODI Rankings Overview

In the Women's ODI rankings, Australia continues to lead, despite a slight decrease of two rating points to 163. England remains significantly behind at 128, even after gaining two points. The top six teams have not changed, with India at 126, South Africa at 100, New Zealand at 93, and Sri Lanka at 89. Bangladesh has moved up to seventh place, surpassing Pakistan, which now sits at 72.

Thailand and the Netherlands have temporarily dropped out of the rankings, having not played the required eight ODIs in the last three years. Thailand needs to complete one more ODI, while the Netherlands must play two more matches to regain their standings.

Upcoming Rankings Updates

The ICC will continue to update its rankings in the coming week, with the Men's and Women's T20I rankings scheduled for release on May 5, followed by the Men's ODI Team Rankings update on May 7.
