Asia Cup 2025 Announcement

On July 26, Mohsin Naqvi, the chairman of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), revealed the dates for the much-anticipated Asia Cup 2025, putting an end to the speculation surrounding the tournament.

Concerns had been raised regarding the event due to ongoing geopolitical tensions between India and Pakistan. Recently, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) postponed India's tour to Bangladesh amid political unrest and opted not to send representatives to the ACC's annual general meeting in Dhaka.

Despite these challenges, the meeting proceeded, and the ACC approved the tournament. Shortly after, Naqvi announced via social media that the Asia Cup will take place from September 9 to 28 in the UAE, despite India holding the hosting rights.

“I am thrilled to announce the dates for the ACC Men’s Asia Cup 2025 in the UAE. The esteemed tournament will run from September 9th to 28th. We anticipate an exciting showcase of cricket! A detailed schedule will be released soon,” Naqvi stated.

Teams and Format for Asia Cup 2025

The upcoming Asia Cup will feature eight teams: India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Oman, UAE, and Hong Kong. The tournament format will mirror that of the previous edition, consisting of a group stage followed by Super 4s and culminating in the final.

These eight teams will be split into two groups of four. The top two teams from each group will progress to the Super 4s, with the leading two teams from there advancing to the final.

Reports suggest that India and Pakistan are expected to be placed in the same group, despite calls in India for a complete boycott of Pakistan. If both teams qualify for the final, they could potentially face each other three times during the tournament.
