Excitement Builds for the Pickleball World Cup

The third edition of the Pickleball World Cup is set to take place in Da Nang, Vietnam, from August 30 to September 6, marking the first time this prestigious tournament is hosted in Asia. Arjun Singh, a promising young talent from India, is enthusiastic about the opportunity. In an exclusive interview, he expressed, "This is a fantastic chance to compete against elite players, learn from them, and elevate my own game." At just 15 years old, Arjun has already gained experience from competing in the US and is familiar with the challenging weather conditions in Vietnam. He acknowledges the tough competition ahead but remains focused on his training as the tournament approaches.

A Rising Star in Pickleball

Arjun has made a name for himself as one of India's most talented young players. His impressive collection of titles includes victories in both junior and senior competitions, such as being the IPA Nationals men's singles champion and a gold medallist at the Pickleball World Championships. His skills on the court, including exceptional court coverage and a powerful backhand, have garnered him recognition within the pickleball community. Shelby Bates, a three-time APP Tour gold medallist, praised Arjun's talent, stating, "He’s definitely one to watch in the future." With his growing reputation, Arjun was selected by the IPBL franchise Bengaluru Blasters, becoming the youngest player in the league.

Facing the Challenges of the Asian Circuit

However, the Asian pickleball circuit presents unique challenges. Even top American players have struggled to adapt, as seen during the PPA Tour Asia MB Hanoi Cup, where local players delivered surprising performances against their international counterparts. Arjun recognizes the need for improved endurance to thrive in the humid conditions of the tournament. He stated, "I’m excited about the World Cup in Asia. My focus is on enhancing my fitness and gaining competitive experience before the event."

Preparation for Selection Trials

Before the World Cup, Arjun must first navigate the selection trials for Under-18 players at Dinkers Pickleball Academy in Ahmedabad, scheduled for June 12-14. The domestic circuit is filled with talented players, and Arjun is committed to refining his skills and minimizing errors. He emphasized the importance of mental preparation and consistency in his game, stating, "I’m working on my strengths and making small adjustments to improve my performance at the trials."

Long-Term Aspirations

Looking ahead, Arjun has set ambitious goals for his professional career. With the PPA Tour Asia expanding and the APP announcing a new tour, he sees these developments as valuable opportunities for regional players. "Competing on the APP or PPA Tour is definitely a long-term goal for me," he shared. Arjun is focused on gaining international experience and performing well in major events like the World Cup, hoping to secure a Pro Tour deal in the future.
