Annu Rani's Triumph in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar (Odisha) [India], August 11: After clinching a gold medal at the World Athletics Bronze Level Continental Tour in Bhubaneswar, Olympian javelin thrower Annu Rani expressed her joy over her performance in front of a supportive home audience. She also shared her aspirations for the upcoming World Athletics Championships.

During the Indian Open 2025 World Athletics Bronze Level Continental Tour held in Bhubaneswar, Annu Rani showcased her skills, winning the women's javelin throw event with a remarkable throw of 62.01 meters at Kalinga Stadium. The competition saw Sri Lanka's N D.L.Hatarabag Leka and Deepika finishing in second and third place with throws of 56.27m and 54.20m, respectively.

Last week, Annu achieved her first throw exceeding 60 meters in over a year during an event in Poland, marking a successful return to form. Her winning throw of 62.59 meters was her best in nearly two years. In Bhubaneswar, the 32-year-old athlete recorded two throws over 60 meters, with her second-best throw measuring 61.01 meters.

In an interview, Annu remarked, “I had a fantastic experience, having surpassed the 62m mark two days ago. This is the second consecutive competition where I achieved this milestone. I am thrilled with my performance, especially considering I was fatigued. It’s crucial to maintain a positive mindset; even when tired, a focused mind can lead to success.”

She also noted the contrasting weather conditions, mentioning that while it was colder in Poland, the heat in India required adjustments in technique. Annu expressed her gratitude for the overwhelming support from the Indian crowd, who witnessed such a prestigious athletics event for the first time.

“The atmosphere was fantastic. There was pressure to win gold on home soil, but I cherished the love from the local fans,” she added.

Rani confirmed her qualification for the World Championships scheduled in Tokyo from September 13-21, alleviating some pressure. “Our coach has encouraged us to peak at the World Championships and aim for a medal. Given my current performance, I am committed to giving my best,” she concluded.
