Anjum Chopra Backs RCB to Retain IPL Title Amid Strong Competition
RCB's Title Defense Potential
Anjum Chopra, a former Indian cricketer, has voiced her strong belief that the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) can successfully defend their title in the Indian Premier League (IPL). She drew comparisons with franchises like the Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings, highlighting that consistency is crucial for making it to the playoffs. RCB clinched their first IPL title by narrowly defeating Punjab Kings by six runs in the 2025 final held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, marking the end of an 18-year trophy drought.
Momentum is Key
Chopra emphasized that teams that gain early momentum and maintain their form throughout the season have a higher chance of success. She stated that while a new champion could emerge this season, RCB has the potential to defend their title. In her words, "Yes, they can definitely do it. Mumbai has done it, Chennai has done it, and RCB can also achieve this. The team that consistently performs well will reach the playoffs. All playoff teams start strong, just as they finished last season, so RCB has a real shot at it."
RCB: The Most Organized Team
Chopra regards RCB as the most organized team this season, noting their strong momentum as the defending champions. She remarked that they have not only continued from where they left off last year but have also shown even greater balance and strength in the current campaign. "RCB is looking impressive; they are the most organized team because they are the defending champions, and they have picked up right where they left off last season. In fact, they appear even better this year," she added.
Current Standings
RCB has won both of their opening matches in the 2026 IPL, currently holding the third position in the points table with four points and an impressive Net Run Rate (NRR) of +2.501.
Punjab Kings in Strong Form
Chopra also acknowledged the strong performance of the Punjab Kings (PBKS), who reached the final last season and are well aware of how to leverage that experience. "Punjab is looking very good. Having played in the final last year, they know how to build from that experience and have started well this season," she concluded.
PBKS Performance
The Punjab Kings have kicked off the 2026 IPL season positively, winning two out of their three matches, with one game ending in a draw. They currently sit in second place on the IPL points table with five points.
