Animesh Kujur Shatters Records at Khelo India University Games 2025
Record-Breaking Performances at KIUG 2025
Jaipur (Rajasthan) [India], December 5: Olympian Animesh Kujur, who holds national records in the 100m and 200m events, concluded his participation in the Khelo India University Games (KIUG) 2025 on a triumphant note. He spearheaded the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) team to a remarkable new record in the 4x100m relay, clocking in at 40.09 seconds.
Upon securing the gold medal in the relay, Kujur expressed his satisfaction, stating, “Our primary goal was to establish a new record, and we were fortunate enough to achieve that at the Khelo India University Games 2025. I am thrilled with our team's performance.”
Mahatma Gandhi University, who took home the silver medal, matched the previous KIUG record of 40.76 seconds, which was previously set by Mangalore University.
In another highlight, KIIT's Samardeep Singh Gill surpassed his own All India University (AIU) record in the men's Shot Put event during the KIUG at Sawai Man Singh Stadium. Samardeep, who has triumphed over two-time Asian Games champion Tajinderpal Singh Toor multiple times this year, launched the shot put to an impressive distance of 19.42 meters on his second attempt, securing the gold medal. Aniket from Guru Kashi University finished second with a throw of 18.08 meters.
Samardeep, who previously held the AIU record at 18.76 meters and the KIUG record at 18.75 meters, has consistently thrown over 19 meters this year, showcasing his exceptional form in Jaipur.
Teammate Isha Chander Prakash also made headlines by breaking the KIUG record in the heptathlon with a total score of 4857 points. After establishing a significant lead following the first four events, Isha maintained her advantage to surpass the previous record by 109 points, which was held by Sonu Kumari of Lovely Professional University.
In Udaipur, Chandigarh University excelled on the final day of Canoe and Kayaking events at Fateh Sagar Lake, securing seven gold medals and finishing with a total of 23 golds, one silver, and one bronze. Guru Kashi University followed as the second-best team with three golds, one silver, and three bronzes.
In the men's football final at Poornima University, the University of Calicut triumphed over Guru Nanak Dev University in a nail-biting shootout, winning 5-4 after a goalless match in regulation time.
The fifth edition of KIUG 2025 is taking place across seven cities in Rajasthan, featuring 4448 athletes from 222 universities competing in 23 medal events. The Games are organized under the Sports Authority of India in partnership with the Rajasthan State Sports Council and hosted by Poornima University.
With only one day remaining in the competition, Chandigarh University has extended its lead in the medals tally to 41, thanks to their seven gold medals in Canoe and Kayaking on Thursday.
While Chandigarh University dominated the Canoe and Kayaking events, a total of 12 new records were established in athletics over the four-day event.
