Andy Flower's Spiritual Journey in Rishikesh

Andy Flower, the head coach of Royal Challengers Bengaluru, recently visited Rishikesh where he met Swami Chidanand Saraswati, the president of Parmarth Niketan Ashram. This encounter coincided with International Yoga Day on June 21, 2025, as captured in a video by a news agency. Flower mentioned that he has been in Rishikesh for the past two weeks.


During his visit, Flower emphasized that yoga transcends a mere daily practice; it embodies a holistic lifestyle that influences one's overall existence. He expressed his insights in an interview, stating,


"My name is Andy Flower, originally from Zimbabwe. Being in Rishikesh for International Yoga Day has been fantastic. I've been here for two weeks, and it’s remarkable that it coincides with this day. I am gaining a deeper understanding of yoga, realizing it’s not just an hour-long class but a way of life for millions, which has been quite enlightening for me."

Flower further elaborated on his experiences, stating,


"I have thoroughly enjoyed the daily practices, especially the physical aspects, which have been beneficial for my body. The consistency of these practices, along with the Pranayamas and sound healing techniques, have also nourished my soul. Meeting the swamis on International Yoga Day has been a true honor."


Since taking on the role of head coach last year, Andy Flower has made a significant impact by leading Royal Challengers Bangalore to their first IPL title. His coaching approach, marked by practicality and extensive experience, has been pivotal in transforming the team's culture.


However, the franchise is currently under legal scrutiny due to a tragic incident that occurred during their victory celebration, where a stampede outside the M Chinnaswamy Stadium led to the unfortunate loss of 11 lives.
