Anahat Singh Claims Women's Title

In Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on December 5, India's promising squash talent Anahat Singh maintained her impressive streak by defeating veteran Joshna Chinappa to clinch the women's championship at the HCL Squash Indian Tour 4.

On the men's side, Velavan Senthilkumar emerged victorious against Egypt's Adam Hawal to secure the men's title. The 17-year-old Anahat, who is the tournament's top seed and currently ranked 29th in the world, triumphed over the 39-year-old Chinappa with a score of 3-2 (11-8, 11-13, 11-13, 11-6, 11-8) in a match lasting 52 minutes. This victory marks her third consecutive win against the seasoned player, as noted by Olympics.com.

The two had previously met in the SRFI Indian Open final last month, where Anahat also won with a close 3-2 score. Earlier in March, she defeated Joshna 3-1 in the semifinals of the Indian Open held in Mumbai.

Leading up to the finals, Anahat was in exceptional form, not losing a single game. After receiving a bye in the first round, she achieved victories over Tamara Holzbauerova from Czechia, Japan's Akari Midorikawa, and South Africa's third seed Hayley Ward.

This victory marks Anahat's fourth title this season, adding to her previous wins at the Indian Open in Mumbai, the SRFI Indian Tour title in Chennai, and the SRFI Indian Open 2025 tournament in Indore. It also represents her 14th title in the Professional Squash Association (PSA), achieved in just her 21st PSA event.

The young athlete has shown remarkable prowess this season, having previously defeated seventh-ranked Tinne Gilis and world No. 20 Melissa Alves, before narrowly losing to world No. 10 Georgina Kennedy of England in the Canadian Women’s Open semifinals in October.

In August, Anahat made history by becoming the first Indian woman to reach the finals of a PSA World Tour Copper-level event at the NSW Squash Bega Open 2025 in Australia. By the end of 2024, she had amassed an impressive nine PSA Challenger titles.

On the men's side, top seed Velavan Senthilkumar showcased his skills by overcoming the Egyptian challenge in 62 minutes, having lost only one game throughout the tournament, which occurred in the semifinals against Marco Levy from France. Earlier, he defeated Sri Lanka's Ravindu Laksiri and Australia's sixth-seeded Joseph White.

This victory marks Velavan's 10th title on the PSA Tour, and he also earned a bronze medal at the Asian Squash Championships in June.
