Indian wrestler Aman Sehrawat achieved a remarkable victory by winning the gold medal in the men's freestyle 57kg category at the 2026 Asian Games on Saturday, defeating North Korea's Chong Song Han.

Starting the final match defensively, Aman skillfully defended against Han's persistent attacks on his left leg, keeping the score at zero during the initial moments. Although he received a passivity warning and conceded a point, he quickly countered with a takedown, marking his first score. Aman then executed another impressive takedown before the break, leading 4-1.

In the second period, Aman increased his lead to 6-1 with another excellent takedown. However, Han, despite struggling with a knee injury, mounted a strong comeback, scoring six points in rapid succession through a takedown and a roll, flipping Aman's lead to a 7-6 deficit. With the match slipping away, Aman executed a crucial four-point move, regaining the lead at 10-7 by scoring two points for a takedown and two more for a roll. He then benefited from a point awarded after Han's unsuccessful challenge, ultimately securing the victory and the Asian Games gold medal.

This victory marked India's second gold medal in wrestling at the ongoing Asian Games, following Sujeet Kalkal's triumph on Friday. Aman showcased excellent defense against Han's early attempts while effectively utilizing his offensive techniques to establish a significant lead. Despite conceding six points briefly in the second period, he made the decisive move to regain control and achieve a memorable win.
