Day One Highlights of the Third Ashes Test

On the opening day of the third Ashes Test in Adelaide, Australia reached a score of 326/8 by stumps, thanks to a remarkable century from wicketkeeper-batsman Alex Carey. His innings helped stabilize the Australian side after a shaky start. Under pressure, Carey countered with an aggressive performance, regaining momentum for his team. Despite losing three wickets in the final session, Australia managed to add 132 runs to their total before the end of the day.

Carey was dismissed for 106 runs after edging the ball, while Mitchell Starc remained unbeaten at 33 runs, continuing to pose problems for England. Starc will resume batting on the second day alongside Nathan Lyon, who is yet to score. Starc and Josh Inglis contributed significantly with crucial partnerships alongside Carey, with Inglis scoring 32 runs before being dismissed.

For England, Jofra Archer was the standout performer on day one, claiming three wickets, while Brydon Carse and Will Jacks each took two wickets. Earlier, Usman Khawaja made a strong return to the Ashes with a solid half-century, helping Australia reach 194/5 by tea, although he fell short of a century. Australia lost three wickets in the second session, finishing just six runs shy of 200, with Carey not out on 48 and Inglis also unbeaten.

Archer put Australia in a tough spot by quickly dismissing Marnus Labuschagne (19) and Cameron Green (0), reducing the hosts to 94/4 shortly after lunch. Khawaja, who was not out on 41 at lunch, witnessed his team collapse to 94/4 from the non-striker's end. On the very first ball of the second session, Labuschagne was cheaply dismissed, giving a simple catch to Carse at mid-wicket after a poorly executed cross-bat shot. Carse then made a spectacular diving catch to dismiss Green, whose shot deflected off his pad.
