Ajinkya Rahane's Passion for Test Cricket Remains Strong
Rahane's Commitment to Test Cricket
Ajinkya Rahane has reiterated his ambition to don the Indian Test jersey once again, expressing his enthusiasm for the longest format of the game. With a record of 5,077 runs from 85 Tests, including 12 centuries and 26 fifties, Rahane, who is now 37, has also captained the team in six matches, securing victories in four of them. His leadership was notably highlighted during the 2020/21 Border-Gavaskar Trophy Series, where he stepped in for Virat Kohli and led the team to a 2-1 triumph in Australia. Rahane shared his thoughts during a conversation with Sky Sports at the India vs England Test match at Lord's.
"It's great to be here. I still have a strong desire to play Test cricket. My passion for the game remains intact. Currently, I'm enjoying my time on the field. I've brought my training gear to stay fit," Rahane stated while speaking to Sky Sports.
"I'm not focused on what lies ahead. However, I feel I'm in good form. My performance in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy was solid, and I'm having a good season in the Ranji Trophy as well," he mentioned after the quarter-finals.
"I also performed well in the World Test Championship final in 2023. Although I was dropped afterward, selection is the selectors' responsibility. I believe I played well in that WTC final," Rahane added.
Rahane's Last Test Appearance
Rahane's most recent Test match for India took place against the West Indies in July 2023, where he served as the vice-captain. This match ended in a draw and marked his last appearance in the Test format for the national team. Since then, he has been actively participating in domestic cricket, leading Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy, including their championship win in the 2023/24 season.
