Aizawl Derby: Aizawl FC and Chanmari FC Set for Thrilling Clash in I-League
Excitement Builds for the Aizawl Derby
Aizawl (Mizoram) [India], March 23: The much-anticipated Aizawl derby is set to unfold as Aizawl FC faces off against Chanmari FC in the Indian Football League 2025-26 at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium on Tuesday, with kickoff scheduled for 18:30 IST.
After suffering a 0-2 defeat to the formidable Diamond Harbour FC, Aizawl FC is eager to reclaim their momentum. Head coach R Lalruatfela noted that while the team showed strong defensive efforts in the first half, a lapse in concentration during the second half led to their downfall.
Reflecting on the loss, Lalruatfela stated, “The experience of my defenders was lacking. It’s not just about player mistakes; my decisions also played a role. Such errors are unacceptable at this level.”
He emphasized the importance of adaptability during matches, saying, “The game is unpredictable. Sometimes you control the ball, sometimes you don’t. Effective game management must come from the team. Experience is crucial.”
Currently positioned fifth with five points, Aizawl FC has faced a disappointing run recently.
In pursuit of an immediate turnaround, the coach is focusing on results over aesthetics, stating, “In senior football, the outcome is paramount. Winning is what truly matters, regardless of our style of play.”
Player Eric Rempuia echoed this sentiment, highlighting the team’s improved chemistry and preparation. “Our unity is growing both on and off the field. We are fully committed to winning these three points to climb the table,” he remarked.
Chanmari FC, newly promoted and sharing the same home ground, is also looking for redemption after a narrow 1-2 loss to Shillong Lajong FC. Under head coach Victor Lalbiakmawia, they have demonstrated a potent attacking style.
Both teams have made impressive starts to the season but are now eager to return to winning form. This match marks the inaugural top-flight I-League encounter between the former champions and the ambitious newcomers, adding to the excitement and unpredictability of the event.
With local pride and crucial points at stake, the derby promises to deliver thrilling action. Both teams, currently tied with five points, understand the significance of a victory for their campaigns.
However, Lalruatfela downplayed the derby hype, stating, “I’m not focused on the derby right now. My priority is securing three points. This is a great opportunity for us.”
A win for either side would provide a vital three points, potentially elevating them to second place in the standings. As Aizawl aims to strengthen their defense and Chanmari looks to leverage their attacking prowess, the stage is set for an exhilarating Aizawl Derby.
