AIFF Responds to ISL Clubs' Urgent Request

The All India Football Federation (AIFF) announced on Friday that it has received a collective letter from 11 clubs participating in the Indian Super League (ISL), expressing their concerns regarding the league's uncertain future.

In a statement, the AIFF confirmed that it replied to the clubs on August 13, proposing a meeting between the legal representatives of both parties to discuss the situation and determine the next steps.

"On the evening of August 8, 2025, the AIFF received a letter from 11 ISL clubs, requesting that the Supreme Court be informed about the ongoing uncertainty surrounding the league. The AIFF's response on August 13 included a suggestion for a meeting between the clubs' legal teams and the Federation to deliberate on the matter and decide on future actions," the statement detailed.

This situation arises amidst increasing worries from various stakeholders regarding the stability of India's premier football league.

On Thursday, the AIFF held a meeting with ISL clubs in New Delhi, as reported on its official website.

AIFF President Kalyan Chaubey led the meeting, which included club CEOs from 13 teams, representatives from the Football Sports Development Limited (FSDL), and AIFF officials such as Vice President NA Haris, Treasurer Kipa Ajay, and Chairpersons Menla Ethenpa and Lalnghinglova Hmar, who addressed the clubs.

The AIFF reassured the clubs that the league would continue to operate in the country, as it has traditionally done.

Furthermore, the federation proposed that the Super Cup be organized prior to the league's commencement, allowing all clubs to conclude the 2025-26 season by May 31, which is crucial for maintaining eligibility for AFC competitions.

“Football is of national significance. While individuals may come and go, the sport must persist. Considering the pre-season needs and the packed schedule, the Super Cup is anticipated to occur before the ISL, giving clubs a pre-season period of six to eight weeks,” stated AIFF President Kalyan Chaubey.
