Ahmed Shehzad Slams PCB: Is the Future of Pakistan Cricket at Stake?

Former cricketer Ahmed Shehzad has voiced strong criticism against the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), calling it ineffective and attributing the team's recent failures to its weak leadership. He highlights the board's failure to introduce new talent and questions the focus on a select few players promoted through the Pakistan Super League. Shehzad's remarks come in light of Pakistan's disappointing performance in recent ICC tournaments, including their exit from the T20 World Cup 2026 and a subsequent ODI series loss to Bangladesh. His comments raise concerns about the future of cricket in Pakistan and the accountability of its players.

Ahmed Shehzad's Bold Critique of PCB

New Delhi: Ahmed Shehzad, a former cricketer, has expressed strong discontent with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), labeling it as ineffective and attributing the team's struggles to the excessive influence of a select few individuals.

Pakistan's cricket team has faced significant criticism after failing to advance to the knockout rounds in their last four ICC tournaments, including a disappointing exit from the Super 8s in the recent T20 World Cup 2026.

In a recent YouTube discussion, Shehzad remarked, "Whenever a player is mentioned, they fabricate stories. I have never witnessed the PCB being this weak. They hold power, yet their decision-making seems submissive to the players. This PCB is incapable of action."

He further criticized the board for not introducing fresh talent, stating, "Instead of innovating, they resort to the same old tactics after each event, but the public has recognized their pattern."

Shehzad also raised concerns about the PCB's focus on promoting a limited number of players through the Pakistan Super League (PSL), suggesting it has fostered a detrimental environment.

"The quality of players has not matched the brand image the PCB created for the PSL years ago. The same 6-8 players are now the faces of both the PSL and our national team. Can they truly change Pakistan's fate?" he questioned.

He criticized the board for granting these players sponsorships and leadership roles without seeing any positive outcomes.

"You invested heavily in these players, giving them captaincy roles in the PSL and making them central figures in the Pakistan team. What have they achieved? They have indulged in personal gains while failing to deliver victories for Pakistan," he stated.

Shehzad also pointed out the players' lack of accountability for their poor performances, which he believes has contributed to the decline of cricket in the country.

"The arrogance is such that they refuse to acknowledge their responsibility. None of them are willing to admit their faults. They continue to play the blame game, and their egos remain intact. The PCB is in a dire state," he concluded.

Following the T20 World Cup 2026, Pakistan's struggles continued as they lost a three-match ODI series to a lower-ranked Bangladesh, further compounding their humiliation.
