2027 FIA Formula One World Championship Calendar Unveiled with Expanded Sprint Events
Overview of the 2027 F1 Calendar
The International Automobile Federation (FIA) and Formula 1 have officially revealed the calendar for the 2027 FIA Formula One World Championship, which has been approved by the World Motor Sport Council. This upcoming season will feature a total of 24 Grands Prix across 22 nations, along with 10 Sprint events, as stated in their announcement.
Pre-season testing is scheduled to occur in Bahrain from February 24 to 27, leading up to the first race of the season in Bahrain, followed by a race in Saudi Arabia.
The championship will then proceed to Australia, Japan, and China, before heading to the Miami and Canadian Grands Prix.
In June, Formula 1 will make its return to Portugal after the Monaco Grand Prix, with Turkiye rejoining the calendar in October, positioned between Azerbaijan and Singapore.
The season will conclude with races in Austin, Mexico City, Sao Paulo, and Las Vegas, culminating in the final two rounds in Qatar and Abu Dhabi.
Sprint Events and Their Popularity
The 2027 calendar reflects Formula 1's ongoing expansion as a global sport and entertainment platform, emphasizing sustainability through a more efficient geographical arrangement of events throughout the season.
Due to the increasing popularity of the format, the number of Sprint events has risen from six to ten for the 2027 season, promising fans, promoters, and broadcasters even more thrilling action. Data indicates that viewership for Sprint weekends is 12% higher compared to non-Sprint weekends, with Sprint Qualifying being significantly more popular among fans.
New Sprint events will take place in Bahrain, Australia, Japan, Monaco, and Abu Dhabi, allowing fans to experience two exciting qualifying sessions in Monaco, showcasing the drivers' exceptional skills on the challenging streets of Monte Carlo.
Additionally, Sprint events will return to Montreal, Silverstone, Monza, Sao Paulo, and Lusail, enhancing the excitement of race weekends for audiences worldwide.
