Exciting Launch of the 2025 Rising Stars Championship

Saint John’s [Antigua and Barbuda], July 9: Cricket West Indies (CWI) proudly announces the commencement of the 2025 Rising Stars Women’s Under-19 Championship, taking place in Trinidad and Tobago from July 8 to July 19. This eagerly awaited tournament showcases the region's most talented young female cricketers, with teams from Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica, Windward Islands, last year’s runners-up Leeward Islands, and the defending champions Guyana.

Now in its fifth year under the title “CWI Rising Stars Championship,” this regional event began in 2009 as an invitational tournament organized by the Trinidad and Tobago Women’s Cricket Association (TTWCA). In 2019, CWI’s Board of Directors pledged full financial support for the tournament following the successful hosting of the 2018 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in the Caribbean.

The championship is now an integral part of the annual CWI Rising Stars age-group regional tournament schedule, collaboratively managed by CWI and TTWCA. It plays a crucial role in CWI’s long-term strategy for player development and aims to enhance the growth of women’s cricket across the region, serving as a vital platform for identifying future West Indies international players.

A special Player Development Session is scheduled for July 9, aimed at providing young athletes with essential skills both on and off the field.

This interactive session will cover important topics such as Sports Psychology, Nutrition and Physical Wellness, Personal Branding and Social Media Awareness, and Children’s Rights and Protection.

Bascombe, CWI’s Director of Cricket, highlighted the significance of the championship in promoting women’s cricket.

“The Rising Stars Women’s Under-19 Championship transcends cricket; it’s about empowering young women, enhancing their confidence, and preparing them for success in all aspects of life,” he stated. “We take pride in the growth of this tournament and its critical role in our commitment to developing female cricket in the region.”

The tournament promises fierce competition and a display of future stars, as each team competes for regional supremacy. Concurrently, the developmental aspects reinforce CWI’s mission to support young female athletes through education, awareness, and skill enhancement.

“This championship provides our girls with a platform to excel and prepares them for the responsibilities of being professional athletes and role models,” Bascombe added. “We aim to ensure that when they don the maroon, they are not only skilled cricketers but also well-rounded individuals.”

The 2025 Rising Stars Women’s Under-19 Championship builds on the momentum of previous years and is anticipated to draw significant regional interest as enthusiasm for women’s cricket continues to grow. It underscores Cricket West Indies’ ongoing dedication to female participation, youth engagement, and the sustainable advancement of cricket in the West Indies.

Matches will be held at the Sir Frank Worrell Memorial Ground at the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine; the Diego Martin Sporting Complex; and the National Cricket Centre in Couva.
