Innovative AI Programs Launched in India

Bengaluru: On Tuesday, Google, the renowned technology leader from the US, introduced a range of artificial intelligence (AI) initiatives aimed at developers, startups, educational institutions, and enterprises in India.

During the Google I/O Connect India 2026 summit held in Bengaluru, the tech giant revealed new educational programs focused on AI, collaborations in healthcare, cybersecurity measures, and enhanced infrastructure for Indian businesses utilizing its AI technologies.

The company also highlighted that its Google Play Store and Android ecosystem contributed approximately Rs 5.3 lakh crore (around $60 billion) in revenue for app developers and the broader Indian economy in 2025, marking a 28% increase from the previous year.

Karnataka's Chief Minister, DK Shivakumar, acknowledged Google's significant impact on enhancing internet accessibility and digital services in India through platforms like Search, Android, YouTube, Maps, and Google Pay.

He remarked, "Google has revolutionized the way students learn, businesses expand, governments provide services, and billions of individuals access information daily. This is an extraordinary contribution from all of you."

Among the notable announcements, Google DeepMind introduced its AI Research Foundations curriculum, a complimentary 56-hour program designed to equip learners with the skills to create and refine large language models.

This initiative will be launched in collaboration with NASSCOM, the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) in Bengaluru, and other educational institutions.

Preeti Lobana, Country Manager for Google India, stated, "India's innovators are adopting AI at an unprecedented pace. As we transition into this new era, our priority is to provide the necessary infrastructure and safeguards for the ecosystem to grow responsibly."

Additionally, Google unveiled ATL Saathi, a Gemini-powered assistant for educators, which will initially be implemented in 100 schools under the Atal Innovation Mission.

In the healthcare sector, researchers at AIIMS Delhi are utilizing Google's MedGemma open AI models to create tools tailored for leprosy and sexual and reproductive health, with plans to share these models with the developer community in India.

Furthermore, Google announced that Gemini Live now accommodates 25 Indian languages and dialects, including Sanskrit, Bhojpuri, and Maithili.
