Discover Odisha's Heritage: New Philatelic Releases Celebrate Cultural Landmarks
Odisha Postal Circle Unveils Unique Philatelic Cancellations
Bhubaneswar: In a significant move to highlight the cultural richness of Odisha, the Odisha Postal Circle has introduced ten Permanent Pictorial Cancellations. This initiative marks the first time such a collection has been launched simultaneously, aiming to utilize philately as a means to showcase the state's heritage and tourism opportunities.
The unveiling took place on October 12, led by Chief Postmaster General Nirmaljit Singh during a celebration for Fun with Philately Day, part of National Postal Week. The cancellations depict notable sites from Khordha and Kataka districts, including the Rajarani Temple, Chandaka Elephant Reserve, Mukteswar Temple, Dhauligiri, the birthplace of Netaji, Swaraj Ashram, Kataka Chandi Temple, silver filigree art, Barabati Fort, and Nandankanan Zoological Park.
These cancellation impressions will be accessible at selected post offices located near the respective tourist attractions, allowing philatelists, stamp enthusiasts, and visitors to collect them. Additionally, Singh introduced a themed picture postcard for National Philately Day and a series of ten bookmarks that celebrate India's traditional performing arts under the title “Puppets of India.”
This initiative is designed to enhance awareness of Odisha's cultural heritage, historical sites, and tourist spots through philately, while also fostering interest in stamp collecting. As part of the National Postal Week celebrations, various activities such as mini stamp exhibitions, philatelic workshops, quizzes, seminars, and letter-writing contests are being organized throughout the Odisha Circle.
