Mobile Science Exhibition Launched to Inspire Rural Students in Odisha

The Regional Science Centre in Bhubaneswar, in partnership with the JSW Foundation, has launched a Mobile Science Exhibition aimed at providing experiential science education to over 60,000 students in rural Odisha. This initiative, featuring interactive exhibits and hands-on learning, seeks to make science accessible to underserved communities. The program will travel across seven districts, offering engaging sessions and demonstrations that connect scientific concepts to everyday life. With a focus on inclusivity, the exhibition provides information in both Odia and English, ensuring that all students can benefit from this innovative educational experience.

Innovative Science Education Initiative in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: In a collaborative effort, the Regional Science Centre in Bhubaneswar and the JSW Foundation have introduced a Mobile Science Exhibition (MSE) program designed to deliver hands-on science education to students in rural and underserved regions of Odisha.

The launch event saw the MSE van inaugurated by Sibani Mohanty, the Additional Secretary of the Department of Science and Technology, alongside Kapil Jain, the head of the Regional Science Centre.

After the ceremony, the specially designed van set off on its mission to reach seven targeted districts: Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Kendrapara, Dhenkanal, Jagatsinghpur, and Jajpur.

This initiative aims to impact over 60,000 students, focusing on those enrolled in government and less privileged schools.

The exhibition, titled ‘Science in Everyday Life’, aims to enhance accessibility to science education by bringing interactive learning experiences directly to schools in remote locations.

The MSE is outfitted with 20 engaging and participatory scientific models that will motivate students to interact with the exhibits, perform experiments, observe scientific phenomena, and grasp the underlying principles.

Topics covered include sound intensity, height and distance measurement, water footprint, electrical circuits, gravity, temperature effects, and alternative energy sources.

Information is provided in both Odia and English, supplemented by audio outputs, ensuring inclusivity for students from various backgrounds.

Kapil Jain highlighted the significance of this initiative in democratizing access to experiential science education and nurturing curiosity and scientific thinking among students.

He stated, “Science transcends textbooks and labs; it is a vital part of our daily lives. The mobile exhibition will allow students in underserved areas to learn scientific concepts through direct engagement and practical experiences.”

The partnership with JSW Foundation is anticipated to enhance the outreach of science communication and education throughout Odisha.

As the MSE travels through the designated districts, it will host interactive sessions, science demonstrations, and engaging science shows for students.

This initiative represents a crucial advancement by the City RSC in promoting inclusive, participatory, and experiential science education, ensuring that students in remote and underserved communities have the chance to engage with science in a meaningful and interactive way.
