New Delhi: According to Randhir Jaiswal, spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), India acquires its oil based on global market conditions to fulfill its energy requirements.

In a recent press briefing, he emphasized that the bilateral relations between India and Russia remain robust.

Jaiswal stated, "Our relationships with nations are evaluated on their own merits and should not be influenced by external factors. The partnership with Russia is longstanding and reliable."

Addressing concerns regarding reports that certain Indian oil firms have ceased imports from Russia, he remarked, "Our approach to energy sourcing is guided by market availability and the current global landscape. We do not have detailed information on this matter."

He also mentioned that India is adapting to the tariff increases announced by President Trump, while continuing to strengthen its strategic partnership with the United States.

Jaiswal noted, "India and the US enjoy a comprehensive global strategic partnership based on mutual interests, democratic principles, and strong interpersonal connections."

He added, "This partnership has endured various transitions and challenges, and we are committed to advancing the agenda agreed upon by both nations, confident that our relationship will progress further."

Regarding security, he highlighted the strong ties between India and the US, expressing optimism for further growth under the India-US COMPACT for the 21st century.

Additionally, Jaiswal acknowledged the US sanctions imposed on six Indian companies for acquiring petroleum products from Iran.

However, he declined to comment on President Trump's suggestion that India might consider purchasing oil from Pakistan following an energy agreement with Islamabad.
