Who Created Golden Lanka and Why?

According to Hindu beliefs, it was Lord Shiva who built Golden Lanka for Goddess Parvati. Although Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati lived a simple life in the Himalayas, content with their surroundings, the sight of the grand palaces of other deities sparked a desire in Parvati's heart for a palace of her own. She expressed this wish to Lord Shiva, prompting him to create a magnificent abode.

Ravana's Deceptive Acquisition of Golden Lanka

Unable to refuse Parvati's request, Lord Shiva summoned Vishwakarma and Kubera to construct a splendid palace in the middle of the ocean, which came to be known as Golden Lanka. Its beauty soon became the talk of the land. During the Ramayana era, Ravana happened to pass by and was captivated by the sight of this golden city. His greed took over, and he devised a plan to claim it for himself.

Disguising himself as a Brahmin, Ravana approached Lord Shiva and requested the golden city as a gift. Unable to deny a Brahmin, Lord Shiva granted his request, allowing Ravana to deceitfully seize the palace that belonged to him and Goddess Parvati. According to another tale, Ravana also forcibly took Golden Lanka from Kubera.

When Goddess Parvati learned of Ravana's treachery, she became furious and cursed him, proclaiming that one day his Lanka would be reduced to ashes.
