Upcoming Hemkund Sahib Yatra

Dehradun. The renowned religious pilgrimage, Hemkund Sahib Yatra, is set to commence on May 23, 2026. On this date, the sacred Shri Hemkund Sahib will open its doors for devotees. In preparation for the influx of pilgrims, the state government, the Gurudwara management committee, and local administration have ramped up their efforts.

Every year, a significant number of devotees from across the country and abroad visit Hemkund Sahib. Situated at an elevation of approximately 15,000 feet above sea level, this holy site is regarded as one of the major pilgrimage destinations in Sikhism. Due to the challenging terrain, the administration must implement safety, health, and accommodation measures well in advance.

According to officials, preparations are underway to repair roads, footpaths, bridges, and rest stops before the journey begins. Additionally, medical camps, police checkpoints, and provisions for drinking water and electricity are being established to ensure a smooth experience for the pilgrims.

Given the unpredictable weather conditions in the mountainous region, special precautions will be taken during the pilgrimage. The administration has placed disaster management teams on alert due to the likelihood of sudden weather changes. Pilgrims are encouraged to register before their journey and undergo health checks prior to traveling.

Officials associated with the Gurudwara management have indicated that special prayers and religious ceremonies will be held on the day the doors open. Following this, regular access for devotees will be permitted.

This year, it is anticipated that the number of pilgrims may exceed last year's figures, prompting the administration to ensure all arrangements are completed on time.
