Tax-Free Status for ‘Dhurandhar’ in Ladakh
Mumbai, Jan 2: The hit film ‘Dhurandhar’ has officially been made tax-free in the Union Territory of Ladakh. On Friday, Lieutenant Governor Kavinder Gupta announced this decision via his X account, previously known as Twitter, highlighting the film's potential to boost local revenue.
In his post, he stated, “Lt Governor Shri @KavinderGupta declares Bollywood film ‘Dhurandhar’ tax-free in UT #Ladakh. Filmed extensively in the region, this movie showcases Ladakh’s stunning landscapes, demonstrating strong support for filmmakers and reinforcing the UT’s ambition to become a favored location for film shoots and tourism. The Administration is also developing a New Film Policy to fully support film productions in Ladakh.”
‘Dhurandhar’ has taken the box office by storm, narrating the story of an Indian spy who infiltrates criminal networks in Pakistan. It offers a dramatized portrayal of the connections between the Pakistani underworld and the ISI, which lead to terrorist activities in India. This film has significantly contributed to the Hindi film industry's economy, following a series of successful releases this year, marking a new chapter in the Indian spy-thriller genre.
Since its release on December 5, 2025, the film has shown remarkable consistency at the box office, surpassing the INR 600 crore mark in India within just three weeks and maintaining strong performance during the Christmas and New Year holidays.
On the international front, it entered the INR 1,000 crore club globally in approximately three weeks, becoming one of the few Indian films to achieve this feat. Its impressive performance, including a INR 100 crore collection in the fourth week and consistent daily earnings for nearly a month, has solidified its status among the highest-grossing Hindi films.
The film has become a significant commercial success, combining positive word-of-mouth with sustained box office performance in both domestic and international markets.
