Zimbabwe Women Set to Host Historic T20I Series Against South Africa Women
Zimbabwe Women to Face South Africa Women in T20I Series
On Friday, Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) revealed that the Zimbabwe Women’s team will welcome the South Africa Women’s team for a five-match T20 International series at the Queens Sports Club this September.
The matches are slated for September 11, 13, 15, 17, and 19, all taking place at the Bulawayo venue, as confirmed by ZC.
This series marks a significant milestone as it will be the first time the senior South Africa Women’s team visits Zimbabwe, making it a historic event for women's cricket in the region.
Background to the Series
The last home series for Zimbabwe Women occurred in September-October 2025, where they played against the United Arab Emirates Women at the same venue.
Since then, the team has been on the road, participating in major tours to New Zealand and Pakistan.
While Zimbabwe Women have faced South Africa's Emerging team multiple times, they have only clashed with the senior team on two occasions, during an ODI quadrangular series in Potchefstroom, South Africa, back in May 2017.
This upcoming series is crucial for Zimbabwe Women as they rebuild following a disappointing performance at the ICC Women's T20 World Cup Global Qualifier 2026, which took place in Nepal earlier this year.
South Africa Women: A Strong Opponent
The South African women's team is recognized as a powerhouse in international cricket, currently holding the fifth position in the ICC Women's T20I Team Rankings.
They have demonstrated remarkable consistency in the T20 format, finishing as runners-up in the last two ICC Women's T20 World Cups.
ZC Celebrates the Upcoming Series
Givemore Makoni, the Managing Director of ZC, expressed that hosting one of the top teams in the world is a significant achievement for the growth of women's cricket in Zimbabwe.
"We are excited to host South Africa Women for what is expected to be a historic and thrilling series," he stated. "This tour offers our players a valuable chance to compete against elite teams in their home environment.
Makoni further emphasized ZC's commitment to enhancing women's cricket and providing more opportunities for players to compete at the highest level, stating, "We believe these matches will greatly aid in the development of our national team and inspire future generations of women to engage in the sport."
