Concerns Over Global Military Resources

New York: President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine has expressed concerns that the ongoing conflict with Iran might draw global attention and military assets away from Ukraine's struggle against Russia.

In a discussion with CNN’s Fareed Zakaria on GPS, Zelensky highlighted the increasing dangers Ukraine faces if tensions in West Asia escalate.

He stated, “Yes, of course, we have big risks.”

Zelensky warned that Ukraine might experience shortages in air defense systems and missiles if military resources are diverted to address the new conflict.

He specifically mentioned, “I think that we can have a deficit with air defense, especially PAC-3, PAC-2, for Patriot systems, for defending our sky.”

Ukraine has been heavily dependent on Western air defense systems to mitigate extensive Russian missile and drone assaults.

Zelensky noted that the situation in Iran could complicate these defense efforts.

He remarked, “If the war continues, of course, we will have these challenges, and the challenges will only increase.”

Additionally, Ukraine has started to share its drone warfare expertise with partners in the Middle East.

Zelensky confirmed that military experts from Ukraine have been dispatched to assist allies facing threats from Iranian drones.

He stated, “We are ready to help Americans, and we are ready to help also Middle East allies.”

The Ukrainian leader emphasized that this initiative reflects Kyiv’s collaboration with Washington.

He said, “We count on you, and the Americans can count on us.”

However, he cautioned that Russia might gain from the shifting geopolitical landscape.

Zelensky pointed out that the conflict in Iran could bolster Moscow’s position and hinder efforts to resolve Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

He remarked, “Of course, this situation in Iran gives him more money,” referring to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Zelensky called for increased pressure on Moscow and urged for renewed diplomatic initiatives to conclude the war.

He concluded, “If we really want to stop the war, we need to meet. We need more pressure on Russia.”
