Yusuf Pathan's Family Involved in Mumbai Assault Incident: What Happened?
Incident Overview
Mumbai: In a troubling incident, relatives of former cricketer and Trinamool Congress MP Yusuf Pathan, including his father-in-law, have been detained in Mumbai following an alleged assault on a local resident and his family. This altercation reportedly stemmed from a dispute over water splashed from a vehicle, as confirmed by officials on Tuesday.
The police reported that Yusuf Pathan's father-in-law was apprehended on Monday, along with his son and another family member. They are accused of attacking a man and his relatives in the Byculla area of Mumbai two days prior.
Authorities from the Byculla Police Station stated that three individuals, including the father-in-law, are now in custody, while efforts are ongoing to locate a fourth suspect. The case has been filed under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
According to police accounts, the incident took place on Saturday night around 9 p.m. when a local resident, Yusuf Khan (30), was returning home. Water from a pothole splashed onto another individual, Shoaib Khan (35), as Yusuf Khan's vehicle passed through.
Yusuf Khan reported that he promptly halted his car to apologize for the incident. However, Shoaib allegedly responded with verbal abuse and damaged the car's windshield with a bamboo stick before physically assaulting him, resulting in injuries.
Upon returning home, Yusuf Khan's family encouraged him to file a police report.
While on his way to the police station, Yusuf Khan reportedly encountered Khalid Khan, also known as 'Makalik' (Yusuf Pathan’s father-in-law). Police indicated that Khalid was with his son, Umarsad Pathan (35), Shoaib Pathan, and another suspect, Shehbaz Pathan.
Investigators revealed that this group allegedly initiated another confrontation, attacking Yusuf Khan and his family members with bamboo sticks and baseball bats.
During the assault, Yusuf Khan's brother Salman suffered a fractured arm, and his uncle Zaki Ahmed sustained serious injuries. Police confirmed that Shehbaz Pathan is still at large, while the other three have been arrested and charged with assault and inflicting grievous injuries.
The detained individuals were presented before a court, which ordered their remand into judicial custody.
Police stated that their actions were supported by CCTV footage, witness testimonies, and the recovery of weapons used in the attack, including bamboo sticks and baseball bats. Investigators informed the court that the accused were clearly identified through both CCTV visuals and eyewitness accounts.
The investigation into this case is still ongoing, according to police.
