YouTuber Jyoti Malhotra Sent to Police Custody Over Allegations of Sensitive Information Sharing

YouTuber's Arrest and Police Investigation

The district court in Hisar, Haryana, has placed YouTuber Jyoti Malhotra under police custody for four days. She was apprehended on charges of allegedly sharing sensitive information and maintaining ongoing contact with a Pakistani national. Meanwhile, Sarthak Sarangi, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) for the CID Crime Branch, stated that the investigation is still ongoing. The official mentioned that they have recently learned that Malhotra visited the Jagannath Temple in Puri and posted a video about it on Instagram. She also traveled to Chilika and Konark, and was in contact with another YouTuber from Odisha. According to Hisar's Superintendent of Police (SP) Shashank Kumar Sawan, Malhotra was being developed as an asset and had maintained connections with other YouTube influencers and Pakistani nationals. He noted that she was in contact with other influencers and had links to Pakistani Information Officers (PIOs). She had traveled to Pakistan on sponsored trips. Prior to the Pahalgam attack, she was in Pakistan, and the investigation is ongoing to establish any potential connections.

On Wednesday, Hisar police stated that no evidence has emerged indicating that Malhotra had access to any military or defense-related information. However, they confirmed that she was indeed in contact with certain individuals and was aware that they were Pakistani intelligence agents. Police sources revealed that she had been in contact with Ehsan-ur-Rehman, also known as Danish, an employee at the Pakistani High Commission, since November 2023. Danish was expelled from India on May 13 for alleged involvement in espionage. The police have sent three of Malhotra's mobile phones and a laptop for forensic examination, and are also investigating four of her bank accounts.
