Arrest of YouTuber Jyoti Malhotra

Jyoti Malhotra, a YouTuber, has been taken into custody on charges of espionage, following allegations of her connections with Pakistani intelligence operatives. Reports indicate that she is accused of leaking sensitive information regarding India during an operation dubbed 'Operation Sindoor.'

It is claimed that she disclosed details about power outages mandated by the Indian government amid military actions targeting terrorist camps in Pakistan.

This arrest occurred shortly after the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and the Intelligence Bureau interrogated her as part of an ongoing investigation.

Confession and Connections

Authorities from Haryana and central investigative agencies discovered that Malhotra maintained regular communication with Ehsan-ur-Rahim, known as Danish, who is affiliated with the Pakistani High Commission in Delhi. Their correspondence reportedly spanned from November 2023 to March 2025.

Vikas Kumar, a spokesperson for Hisar police, confirmed that Malhotra acknowledged her contact with Danish.

In addition, officials have seized three of her mobile devices and a laptop, along with two phones belonging to Harkirat Singh, the IT head of the Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee, for forensic analysis.

Kumar stated that Danish aimed to cultivate Malhotra as an asset. Furthermore, she was reportedly in touch with other YouTubers. She is expected to appear in a local court on Wednesday, where police will request an extension of her custody.

The Indian government has declared Danish as persona non grata, effectively barring him from remaining in the country. He had previously introduced Malhotra to Ali Ahwan, who facilitated her stay in Pakistan and arranged meetings with Pakistani security personnel.

Reports suggest that Malhotra continued her communications with Pakistani officials even after returning to India, including multiple meetings with Danish at the Pakistan High Commission in Delhi.

Ongoing Investigations

Investigative agencies are scrutinizing her travels to Pakistan, particularly one trip preceding the Pahalgam attack, as well as a visit to China.

A senior police officer mentioned that Malhotra possesses several bank accounts with numerous financial transactions, which are currently under investigation.

In addition to Malhotra, eleven other individuals have been arrested in the last two weeks for their alleged involvement in espionage activities for Pakistan.
