Tragic Shooting Incident in Howrah
Kolkata, Feb 25: A young man was fatally shot at close range by two assailants in the Golabari Police Station jurisdiction of Howrah district, West Bengal, early Wednesday morning.
This alarming event, which took place around 4 a.m., was recorded on CCTV, according to police reports.
The victim has been identified as Safiq Khan. The footage reveals that he was approached by two individuals—one in front and another behind him. Without warning, they drew firearms and shot him in the head. After he collapsed, they fired additional shots to ensure he was dead before fleeing the scene.
Authorities from the Golabari police station are probing whether this incident was linked to extortion or a personal vendetta. The occurrence has stirred significant concern within the community.
As per police information, Safiq Khan resided in Peelkhana, within the Golabari police precinct. He was reportedly a local contractor who had stepped out to buy food in the early hours.
Local witnesses have identified the attackers as Mohammad Harul Khan and Rohit. The CCTV footage captures one suspect engaging with Safiq directly while the other stood behind him.
"In a sudden move, one of the attackers drew a gun from behind and shot Safiq in the head. As he fell, both assailants discharged multiple rounds before escaping. Safiq was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. A case has been filed, and efforts are underway to apprehend the culprits involved in this murder," stated a senior officer from Howrah City Police.
The police are currently analyzing the CCTV footage to identify and locate the suspects.
The family of the deceased claims that the attack stemmed from a previous dispute. A relative mentioned to reporters, "There was an issue with Harul some time ago, but there was no ongoing feud. Harul came with another individual and shot him."
