Marriage Controversy in Madhya Pradesh

Elderly individuals often advise that marriage should be approached with careful consideration. It's essential to understand the background of the person you are marrying. While many people do take this advice to heart, the extent to which they investigate can be a dilemma. A recent incident from Madhya Pradesh highlights this issue. A young man is distressed after discovering that his in-laws arranged for him to marry a transgender individual, leading him to seek police assistance.

The incident took place in the village of Bhavkhedi in Shivpuri. A 23-year-old named Pankhi Jatav approached the SP office with complaints about his transgender wife. He informed the police that he had married a girl named Manisha, but on their wedding night, he learned that Manisha was not a girl but a transgender person. Shocked by this revelation, he called his father-in-law to express that he could not continue the marriage.

The following day, Manisha shared the incident with her elder brother Phoolsingh and sister Saroj, who took her to the hospital for a medical examination. Allegedly, the medical tests confirmed that Manisha is indeed a transgender individual. Consequently, Pankhi sent Manisha back to her parental home. Nearly two years have passed since then, and Pankhi claims that Manisha is now harassing him again. Additionally, his in-laws are pressuring him to either keep Manisha or provide for her.

Pankhi also alleges that his in-laws have threatened to harm him physically. This has prompted him to file a complaint at the SP office for his safety. The police were taken aback by Pankhi's story. However, he could not provide evidence of Manisha's transgender status, leading the police to advise him to approach the family court. This recommendation comes as Manisha had already filed a complaint against Pankhi regarding support and cohabitation.
