Shamli's Remarkable Change Under Yogi Adityanath
On Friday, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath emphasized the significant transformation in Shamli district. He noted that this area, once a hub of chaos and fear, has now become a place of development and connectivity. While addressing the audience in Shamli, he recalled that a decade ago, the district was synonymous with terror and panic, marked by mass migration, rampant lawlessness, stalled infrastructure development, and a lack of security.
He pointed out that ten years ago, Shamli was often discussed in negative terms; people were unaware of its location due to its reputation for fear and violence. There was widespread migration, open gang violence, and a general sense of insecurity. Development projects had come to a halt, youth were disheartened, farmers faced extreme distress, and women and girls were afraid to step outside. The roads were filled with potholes, and industries were non-functional.
The Chief Minister highlighted the strategic connectivity of the district through major expressways, referring to Shamli as a confluence point where the Delhi-Dehradun, Shamli-Ambala, and Shamli-Gorakhpur expressways intersect. He expressed his happiness at this progress, likening it to the famous Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj. Discussing economic reforms, he mentioned that between 2007 and 2017, during the SP and BSP governments, 29 sugar mills had shut down, whereas now there are 122 operational sugar mills across Uttar Pradesh. He stated that UP has become the leading state in the production of sugar, cane, and ethanol, enhancing the prosperity of farmers.
Yogi Adityanath reminisced about a time when women and daughters were afraid to leave their homes, and murders in Kairana were commonplace. He criticized the previous governments for their inadequate electricity supply and labeled the Congress and Samajwadi Party as followers of Jinnah. He accused these parties of suppressing religious activities, stating they would obstruct the Kanwar Yatra, halt celebrations of Krishna Janmashtami, and prevent Ram Navami processions. They were also accused of encroaching on properties of religious sites.
