Yogi Adityanath Highlights Historical Significance of Kashi and Somnath Temples

On Monday, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath addressed the 'Somnath Sankalp Mahotsav' in Varanasi, emphasizing the historical importance of the Kashi and Somnath temples. He described these temples as pillars of India's civilizational consciousness. The Chief Minister noted that both temples have faced numerous attacks throughout history, yet efforts to erase Sanatan Dharma have consistently failed. He stated that the event serves as a call for the revival of India's spiritual heritage, cultural consciousness, and national pride. The Somnath Sankalp Mahotsav is a humble endeavor in this direction, reminding us that while Sanatan culture may face assaults, it can never be defeated.

Highlighting the repeated invasions, he mentioned that Somnath temple was attacked 17 times in attempts to diminish its glory. The misconception that destroying idols and looting temples could annihilate India's soul was addressed. From Muhammad Ghori to the Mughals, various foreign invaders sought to erase our spiritual and cultural identity. Aurangzeb demolished the ancient Kashi Vishwanath temple and erected a structure symbolizing slavery, yet they could never break the spirit of India.

He further explained that those who attempted to eradicate Sanatan Dharma failed to understand that it resides not only within temple walls but also in the consciousness of India, which views the soul as eternal and immortal. Those who sought to eliminate Sanatan Dharma have themselves faded into dust. Discussing modern temple reconstruction projects, Adityanath stated that the rebuilding of the Somnath temple and the development of the Kashi Vishwanath Corridor symbolize a broader cultural renaissance in India.

Reflecting on aspirations post-independence, the Chief Minister credited Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel for realizing the vision of cultural freedom. He noted that after independence, there was a profound desire among the Indian populace for not just political freedom but also cultural liberation. Sardar Patel, the Iron Man of India, voiced this aspiration and took the initiative to restore the Somnath Mahadev temple. Despite facing obstacles and opposition, he persevered. The reconstruction of Somnath was not merely about rebuilding a temple; it was a declaration of liberation from slavery and a restoration of national pride.
