Chief Minister's Remarks on Opposition's Role

On August 7, in Ambedkarnagar, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath accused the Samajwadi Party (SP), the state's main opposition party, of obstructing the assembly session, claiming they show no interest in development. He alleged that prior to 2017, the SP-led government was involved in illegal extortion, with rampant encroachments on police stations and tehsils, and lawlessness at its peak. Adityanath remarked that during that time, people associated the SP flag with criminal activities.

The Chief Minister made these statements during a ceremony where he inaugurated and laid the foundation for 194 development projects worth ₹706 crores in the Jalalpur, Alapur, and Tanda assembly constituencies. Notably, the monsoon session of the Uttar Pradesh legislature was scheduled from August 3 to August 7, but was adjourned after the supplementary budget was passed amidst opposition uproar on August 6. This session saw the passage of a supplementary budget exceeding ₹59,000 crores for the fiscal year 2026-27, despite significant disruptions from opposition parties.

In his address, Adityanath held the Samajwadi Party accountable for the assembly session's disruption, emphasizing the importance of a democratic system where the legislative, executive, and judiciary work in harmony to facilitate development. He reminded the audience of the recent assembly session where a supplementary budget of ₹59,000 crores was proposed, expecting interest from both ruling and opposition members.

He highlighted that the supplementary budget included provisions for youth employment, farmer welfare, women's empowerment, and support for the underprivileged. Adityanath criticized the SP for their lack of interest in development and the welfare of the poor, stating that their actions prevented the assembly from functioning effectively. He also targeted Congress and the SP regarding Ayodhya, questioning their discomfort with the respect Ayodhya has received.

He recalled that the Samajwadi Party had previously ordered gunfire on Ram devotees, while Congress had claimed that Lord Ram never existed. Adityanath asserted that no one can question Lord Ram's existence now, as the world's largest temple dedicated to him has been constructed in Ayodhya, attracting thousands of devotees.

Additionally, he noted that Ambedkarnagar is now connected by two expressways, with ongoing work to link southern Uttar Pradesh to Siddharthnagar, Basti, Prayagraj, and Chitrakoot through the North-South Corridor project.
