Yatindra Siddaramaiah Optimistic About Cabinet Role in Karnataka
Yatindra Siddaramaiah's Assurance from Rahul Gandhi
Following the establishment of a new Karnataka cabinet under DK Shivakumar's leadership, Yatindra Siddaramaiah, the son of outgoing Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and a party leader, expressed that Rahul Gandhi has assured him of a position in the cabinet. Yatindra mentioned that he is not specifically seeking any department. When asked if he aspired to be the Deputy Chief Minister, he replied negatively. He recalled a previous conversation with Rahul Gandhi during his last visit to the high commission, where he was assured that his interests would be considered and he would be included in the cabinet, which gives him hope. He stated that he would be content with any department assigned to him.
DK Shivakumar's Upcoming Swearing-In Ceremony
After Siddaramaiah's resignation, Shivakumar was elected as the leader of the Congress Legislative Party in Karnataka on Saturday. He arrived in the capital on Monday and met with the Congress high command ahead of his swearing-in ceremony scheduled for June 3. Speaking to reporters upon his arrival, Shivakumar extended his best wishes to the people of Karnataka, stating that they have been waiting for this moment for a long time.
Cabinet Formation Discussions in New Delhi
On Monday, Shivakumar and Siddaramaiah will hold discussions with the Congress high command regarding the formation of the cabinet in New Delhi. Sources indicate that Siddaramaiah has proposed the establishment of a coordination committee in the state. Discussions will also cover the appointment of deputy chief ministers. The party leadership is considering an OBC candidate for the position of president of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee. Syed Naseer Hussain, a Rajya Sabha MP from Ballari, mentioned that the party leadership will make necessary decisions regarding the transfer of power, ensuring that the cabinet formation takes into account caste, community, social, and regional balance.
Smooth Transition of Power in Karnataka
He noted that the transfer of power in Karnataka has been very smooth. When DK Shivakumar takes his oath, the council of ministers will also be sworn in. The high command will determine how many leaders will take the oath and whether there will be deputy chief ministers. DK Shivakumar is set to take the oath with the council of ministers at 4 PM on the 3rd.
