Yashasvi Jaiswal Shines with Maiden ODI Century, Coach Celebrates
Jaiswal's Remarkable Performance
Jwala Singh, the childhood coach of Yashasvi Jaiswal, expressed his delight following the batter's first ODI century during the final match of the India vs South Africa series. Jwala noted that Jaiswal's return to form after facing challenges in the earlier ODIs was particularly gratifying.
In the initial two ODIs, Jaiswal scored 18 and 22 runs, respectively, despite showing promise. However, he excelled in the third match, reaching his century off 111 balls and finishing with an impressive 116 not out from 121 balls, including 12 fours and two sixes. His performance was pivotal in leading India to a nine-wicket victory, securing the series 2-1. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli also contributed significantly with scores of 75 and 66 not out.
Jaiswal Proves His Versatility
In an interview, Jwala Singh emphasized that Jaiswal has established himself as a versatile player across formats, excelling in T20Is and Tests in various countries. He stated, "There has been ongoing discussion about Yashasvi being an all-format player, and he has validated this in T20Is. His Test performances in countries like Australia and England demonstrate his adaptability. This series was crucial for him, especially after Shubman Gill's absence, and I am thrilled he scored a century, contributing to India's victory."
Rohit Sharma's Resilience
Jwala also praised Rohit Sharma, highlighting his determination and skill despite facing skepticism regarding his fitness and form. After returning from a lengthy break to compete in Australia, Rohit showcased why he is known as the 'Hitman.' Jwala remarked, "Critics doubted Rohit's fitness, but he has shown immense passion on the field. After a long gap, he played One-Day cricket in Australia, and despite an early dismissal in the first match, he bounced back impressively, proving his critics wrong."
Future of Kohli and Rohit
Regarding Virat Kohli, Jwala expressed hope that Kohli might reconsider his early retirement from Test cricket, given his current fitness. He commended Kohli's recent performances, stating, "I am a huge fan of Virat Kohli and believe he should think about continuing in Test cricket. He is still fit and has made a strong comeback, scoring a fifty recently. Both Kohli and Rohit have much cricket left in them and can continue to serve the nation effectively."
