New Delhi: On Saturday, Chinese President Xi Jinping praised the BRICS alliance as a pivotal platform for collaboration among emerging economies and developing nations, urging the group to fulfill its 'due role' in fostering peace in West Asia.

During his address at the BRICS summit, Xi emphasized China's commitment to working alongside BRICS nations to promote peace and stability in West Asia and the Gulf region, as reported by state media.

He highlighted the ongoing conflicts in West Asia, which have inflicted severe hardships on the local population and do not align with the collective interests of the global community.

Xi called upon leaders from major emerging economies to take action in restoring peace in the region, encouraging member states to align with the right side of history.

He urged BRICS nations to reject Cold War mentalities and to stand against infringements on national sovereignty and internal affairs of other countries.

Xi proposed that BRICS nations enhance their cooperation in artificial intelligence initiatives to drive new industrialization within the group.

He also called for BRICS to take the lead in global governance across cyberspace, outer space, and the deep sea, amplifying the voice of the Global South.

The Chinese leader stressed the importance of innovative development and maintaining peace and stability, promoting mutual understanding among different civilizations.

He urged members to focus on enhancing global governance, steering the international order towards greater fairness and equity, and collaborating to create a shared future for humanity.

Xi's visit marks his first trip to India in seven years, where he was welcomed at the Bharat Mandapam by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the 18th BRICS summit.

Other notable leaders present at the summit include Russian President Vladimir Putin, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, among others.

Additionally, key figures such as UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres and WHO Chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus are also attending the summit.
