The 18th World 10K Bengaluru is set to feature a stellar lineup of elite Indian athletes, including defending champion Abhishek Pal and two-time winner Sanjivani Jadhav. With a prize pool of USD 210,000 and a record turnout of over 36,000 participants, the event promises thrilling competition. Athletes will aim to break records and secure their positions as they prepare for larger goals like the Asian Games. Notable guests will also grace the occasion, adding to the event's prestige.
 

Exciting Line-Up for the 18th World 10K Bengaluru

On Sunday, a remarkable group of elite Indian athletes will compete in the 18th edition of the World 10K Bengaluru. The event boasts a substantial prize pool of USD 210,000, with the Indian male champion set to receive Rs 3,00,000 and the female champion Rs 2,75,000. Additionally, athletes who break existing records will earn a bonus of Rs 1,00,000 at this prestigious World Athletics Gold Label Race.


Defending Champion Abhishek Pal Returns

Abhishek Pal, the defending champion who set the Indian men's event record with a time of 29:12 last year, is back to defend his title. He expressed his excitement, stating, "Bengaluru has always been special for me. I've participated in several 10Ks here, and breaking the course record last year boosts my confidence. This race is crucial for assessing my speed, endurance, and overall fitness as I prepare for the season ahead."


Kartik Karkera's Ambitious Goals

Kartik Karkera, who recently achieved victories at both the National Marathon Championship and the Tata Mumbai Marathon, is also in the race. He noted, "I come into Bengaluru with great momentum, but my focus is on larger goals like the Asian Games. Running a 10K is vital for sharpening speed while maintaining endurance, both of which are essential for marathon training. Events like this provide invaluable exposure to international competition, pushing us to believe in our capabilities at the highest level."


Sanjivani Jadhav Seeks Historic Hat-Trick

In the women's category, Sanjivani Jadhav, a prominent figure in Indian road running and a two-time winner in Bengaluru, aims for a historic third consecutive title. She shared, "My training has been consistent, even after transitioning to marathon running earlier this year. Now, I am focusing on the 5K and 10K as I prepare for the Asian Games. This race is about defending my title and improving my time, which is crucial for my competitive edge."


Record Participation and Distinguished Guests

This year, over 36,000 participants are expected, setting a new record for the event. Notable guests, including Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot, Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar, and Home Minister G Parameshwara, will be present to support the race. Additionally, Chief Minister of Jammu & Kashmir Omar Abdullah will join the runners, along with other dignitaries such as Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar and Giandomenico Milano, the Consul General of Italy.
