Woman Alleges Domestic Abuse After Discovering Husband's Previous Marriage in Bhadohi
Allegations of Domestic Violence in Bhadohi
In the Gyanpur area of Bhadohi district, a woman has reported that her husband concealed his prior marriage at the time of their wedding. Following the revelation, she claims that her in-laws subjected her to both physical and emotional abuse when she confronted them about it.
The police have initiated an investigation based on the complaint filed by the 20-year-old woman. Inspector Vishwajyoti Rai from Gyanpur police station stated that a case was registered late on December 31 against her husband Rahul Tiwari, mother-in-law Sadhana Tiwari, and sisters-in-law Anju and Sanju under various sections of the Indian Penal Code.
Rai mentioned that after the case was filed, officers visited the accused's residence, only to find it locked. Villagers informed the police that all accused fled the village shortly after the complainant left her home.
According to the complaint, Trupti and Rahul, both from the same village, were married in April 2024 at a marriage lawn in Bhadohi city. About a week post-wedding, Trupti discovered her husband's illicit relationship with a woman named Sapna Singh.
The official reported that when Trupti confronted Rahul about this, he allegedly admitted that Sapna Singh was his wife. The complaint states that when Trupti objected, her husband reportedly assaulted her brutally.
Rai further explained that Trupti informed her mother-in-law and sisters-in-law, who allegedly acknowledged that they were aware of Rahul's first marriage and that this information was concealed during the wedding.
The First Information Report (FIR) alleges that for nearly a year, Trupti faced repeated beatings from her husband and in-laws, was held captive, and was not allowed to leave the house.
The police reported that she endured continuous physical and mental harassment. On December 31, 2025, Trupti managed to call her brother, who lives in the same village, and subsequently reached the police station.
She informed the police that her mobile phone contained recordings related to the alleged abuse, but her husband had snatched the phone and destroyed it. The investigation is ongoing.
