Controversial Appointment of K Venkata Narayana

Erode: K A Sengottaiyan, the Revenue Minister of Tamil Nadu, defended the recent appointment of K Venkata Narayana as the state's special representative in New Delhi, asserting that the decision was justified.

On Friday, the state Public Department issued an order designating K Venkata Narayana to this role for a one-year term.

While addressing reporters in Gobichettipalayam, Sengottaiyan emphasized that appointing representatives is a standard policy decision made by the government.

He stated that every individual in India has the right to such positions, thus making the appointment acceptable.

Sengottaiyan further mentioned that all representatives appointed by the Chief Minister would advocate for Tamil Nadu's interests, covering both central government initiatives and river water disputes.

However, the appointment of Venkata Narayana has faced backlash from various political factions. Critics argue that a representative from Karnataka should not speak on behalf of Tamil Nadu.

DMK senior leader MP Kanimozhi expressed her discontent, questioning the lack of qualified candidates from Tamil Nadu for this position.

Seeman, the chief coordinator of Naam Tamilar Katchi, also voiced concerns, particularly regarding the appointment of someone from Karnataka amid ongoing tensions over the Mekedatu Dam issue.

It is noteworthy that Venkata Narayana, a businessman from Karnataka, was involved in producing the last film of actor and Chief Minister Vijay, titled 'Jana Nayagan.'
