Closure of Government Model Degree College in Nabarangpur

Nabarangpur: The Government Model Degree College in Nabarangpur has been shut down indefinitely as of Saturday due to rising tensions following the cancellation of the students’ union elections for the academic year 2026-27.

The college administration decided to halt all academic activities, citing concerns over potential unrest and law enforcement issues. A notice released on Saturday announced the suspension of classes, examinations, and all other educational activities until further notice.

Students residing in hostels were instructed to vacate their accommodations within four hours of the announcement, with a deadline set for 5 PM. Access to the college grounds has also been limited, requiring prior written approval from the administration.

The notice emphasized that this decision was made to safeguard both students and staff, as well as to protect college property in light of the unrest that could arise from the election cancellation.

The elections were called off due to a lack of sufficient eligible candidates for various positions. However, students have raised concerns about this decision, alleging irregularities in the nomination process.
