Vice Admiral A N Pramod Takes Charge

New Delhi: Vice Admiral A N Pramod has officially assumed the role of Deputy Chief of the Naval Staff. Previously, he served as the Director General Naval Operations (DGNO), where he played a pivotal role in the strategic planning and operational readiness of the Indian Navy during Operation Sindoor.

His extensive experience includes serving as the Fleet Operations Officer for the Western Fleet during Operation Snow Leopard, which followed the Galwan incident. Additionally, he was involved in significant military operations such as Operation Vijay in 1999 and Operation Parakram in 2001.

Vice Admiral Pramod takes over from Vice Admiral Tarun Sobti, who retired on July 31 after a commendable career spanning over 38 years.

An alumnus of the 38th Integrated Cadet Course at the Naval Academy in Goa, he was commissioned into the Indian Navy on July 1, 1990.

Specializing as a CAT 'A' Sea King air operations officer, he is also recognized as a communication and electronic warfare expert. His educational background includes training at the Defence Services Staff College in Wellington and the Naval Higher Command Course at the Naval War College in Goa.

Throughout his impressive 36-year career, Vice Admiral Pramod has held numerous command, operational, instructional, and staff roles, both at sea and on land. Notable afloat positions include serving as the Executive Officer of INS Rajput, a guided missile destroyer, and commanding various vessels such as INS Abhay, INS Shardul, and INS Satpura.

Upon his promotion to Vice Admiral, he served as DGNO from December 2023 until July 2026, where he was instrumental in the operational readiness of the Indian Navy during critical missions, including maritime security operations amid the ongoing crisis in West Asia.
