Who is the Grieving Mother Turning to Politics Against TMC in West Bengal?
Mother of RG Kar Victim Seeks Political Change
Kolkata: The mother of a victim from RG Kar has announced her intention to run for the West Bengal Assembly elections as a candidate for the BJP, expressing her desire to use politics as a means to challenge the ruling TMC government.
In a statement to the media, she indicated that she is likely to be nominated from the Panihati constituency in North 24 Parganas, with her name expected to appear in the BJP's upcoming candidate list.
Previously, she had received an offer from the BJP but felt unprepared to accept it at that time. However, she has now decided to move forward, stating, "I want to end the rule of the home minister," referring to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who also oversees the home department.
She accused the state government of attempting to hinder the investigation and justice process related to her daughter's case.
"I am entering politics to ensure justice for my daughter and to remove this government from power," she declared.
Recently, BJP leader Arjun Singh met with the victim's parents, who have alleged that the CPI(M) is covertly supporting the TMC to maintain its hold on power.
The tragic rape and murder of the 31-year-old doctor in August 2024 at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital sparked widespread outrage and led to sustained protests from medical professionals and civil society across the state.
This incident has become a significant political issue, with the BJP accusing the Mamata Banerjee administration of protecting those responsible, while the TMC has denied these claims, asserting that justice will prevail.
