Ratna Debnath Enters Politics to Seek Justice

In Kolkata, Ratna Debnath, the mother of a doctor who was tragically raped and murdered, has officially submitted her nomination papers to run as a BJP candidate from Panihati. She was joined by prominent BJP figure Smriti Irani and local party officials during this significant moment.

After completing her nomination process, Debnath expressed her determination to remove the ruling TMC government in West Bengal. She believes that a change in leadership is essential for enhancing women's safety and preventing future tragedies similar to her daughter's case.

This decision comes nearly a year and a half following the horrific murder of her 26-year-old daughter, which occurred in August 2024 within a locked seminar room at the state-run RG Kar hospital. Debnath agreed to enter the political arena after the BJP reached out to her, aiming to uncover the truth surrounding the crime.

In the upcoming elections, she will face off against TMC's Tirthankar Ghosh and CPI (M)'s Kalatan Dasgupta.
