Who is Mufti Noor Ahmad Noor? The New Face of Afghanistan's Embassy in India
Mufti Noor Ahmad Noor Takes Charge in New Delhi
New Delhi: Senior Taliban official Mufti Noor Ahmad Noor has officially arrived in New Delhi to assume the role of Charge d'Affaires at the Afghan Embassy, as confirmed by officials on Saturday.
Previously, Noor held the position of Director General of the First Political Department within Afghanistan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In recent months, the relationship between India and Afghanistan has strengthened, particularly following the visit of Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi in October of the previous year.
During this visit, Muttaqi made a strong statement regarding the Embassy's control, emphasizing the presence of the Islamic Emirate's flag both in front and behind him.
He stated, 'This is our flag. We fought jihad under this. This is 100 percent our embassy. All those who are working here... they are all with us,' while pointing to the Islamic Emirate's flag displayed prominently, despite the embassy still officially flying the former regime's flag.
Notably, Mufti Noor was part of the delegation that accompanied FM Muttaqi to New Delhi.
While India has yet to formally recognize the Taliban government, it has become a significant donor of aid, continuing to provide humanitarian assistance and medical supplies.
Additionally, Afghan consulates in Mumbai and Hyderabad are now operated by diplomats appointed by the Taliban.
Said Muhammad Ibrahim Khil, who was appointed during the administration of former President Ashraf Ghani, previously served as the CDA of the Afghan Embassy in New Delhi.
Moreover, there have been numerous high-level delegations from Afghanistan visiting India, aimed at enhancing bilateral relations, trade, energy initiatives, and maximizing the potential of the India-developed Chabahar Port in Iran, while also seeking to attract further investments.
